Botanical garden was established in 1947 by the botanist Dr. Fran Kusan on the space of 3.0 hectares. This garden had a very favorable soil for cultivating native plant species. Instead of classical botanical garden with hot houses and with plantations of exotic plants and plants of foreign origin, the space of the garden is arranged in a free style, and it had a landscape characteristic. The plants are not ordered by some botanical system, but according to their origin from our regions. Groups of natural forests, herbal vegetation and especially different species of plant groups on the rocks are formed.
Plant fund is represented with about 3.000 authentic taxa which are intended for morphologic, systematic and ecological studies for scientific, practical and educational purpose and needs and also for making collections. This garden publishes "Delectus seminum" since 1958, and since 1962 it publishes the publication "Informationes Botanicae".
It has its permanent meteorological station.
It has been put under the protection of law.
