2.1. THE ILLYRIAN PROVINCE

The plains and the hills of the vast lowland area of illyrian province consist of alluvial and diluvial sediments. The rest of the area is made of lime-stone and dolomite of different geological formations.

Regarding the climatic conditions, this area, compared to the Mediterranean-montane area differs, among other things in different distribution of precipitation during the year. Here, there is, namely enough precipitation during the summer. Regarding the climatic factors, within this region there is much difference between the lower and hill or mountain areas. That reflects, of course to the vegetation mantel. Based on these facts we differentiate between three major vegetation belts:

2.1.1 The lower forest belt of Carpinion betuli illyrico-podolicum alliance

2.1.2 The belt of mountain and submontane deciduous and coniferous forests
